Zuckerman: New York Daily News won’t go downmarket under new editor

Colin Myler

Former New York Daily News gossip columnist Lloyd Grove says the appointment of “hot-tempered Liverpudlian” Colin Myler as Daily News editor can be seen as Mort Zuckerman’s attempt to solve his paper’s identity crisis by turning it into “a full-throated yellow tabloid.”

Zuckerman denies that. “He’s not going to go downmarket,” the Daily News owner tells Grove. “He’s a great tabloid editor and he’s going to stay within the standards of the marketplace. What I hope he will do is put out a great tabloid newspaper in the Daily News tradition.”
