Farewell, Denver Post copy editors!

No copy editors had a hand in the decorating of this cake!

Denver Post staffers brought out this cake as they said goodbye to many of their copy editors on Friday.

Dean Krakel, who took the photo, tells Romenesko readers:

I arrived at the Denver Post after two years of unemployment after the Rocky Mountain News went down. I was at the Rocky 20+ years as a photographer/photo editor etc. I took pictures of the Rocky’s closing and the newsroom afterwards. I posted a series on people’s desks called, “What They Left Behind.”

Arrived at the Post a year and a half ago and have been shooting all the goodbyes and empty desks ever since.

The cake is part of that work so it’s not a random thing.

The Times-Picayune’s Dennis Persica shot this photo and shares it with Romenesko readers. He writes: “This cake was donated by a local bakery for a party held at photographer John McCusker’s house, which he called ‘The Last Dance for the Picayune.’ McCusker was one of the ones laid off.”
