The Des Moines Register endorsed Mitt Romney this evening, saying the Republican presidential candidate deserves “a chance to correct the nation’s fiscal course and to implode the partisan gridlock that has shackled Washington and the rest of America.”

The last time the Register endorsed a Republican for president was 1972, when it chose Richard Nixon over George McGovern. || Earlier this week: Des Moines Register editor protests Obama’s off-the-record phone call.

“Is my hometown that bad?” asks Motor City native Jon Busdeker, who forwarded this headline. “Does Fox News hate the auto bailout that much?” (We spotted a similar headline in the Torrington Register Citizen last May. The editor blamed it on newsroom downsizing.) UPDATE: Bart Smith points out that other news outlets — including the Chicago Tribune — left out the F in their shifts headlines today.
