Louisville TV station limits use of ‘Breaking News’

Louisville Fox affiliate WDRB-TV tells viewers in a station promo that the term “Breaking News” is “a marketing ploy to convince you that a television station is better at bringing you the news first, as it happens” and that “it’s just not true.” WDRB promises to use the term only when there is, in fact, news that is breaking. “We will not use the term as a marketing gimmick.”

I wonder if this is something a national consultant cooked up and if we’ll see this pledge from stations across the country — stations that will increase the use of “Exclusive!!” and “First on Five!”
