BSMG Team:

I am excited to announce that The Baltimore Sun Media Group has reached an agreement to purchase the Baltimore City Paper.image Due to occur in early March, this acquisition represents a great opportunity for us to add another successful media property to our portfolio while taking advantage of the combined resources on the advertising and business sides. We will be adding a unique population of readers to our overall audience.

The City Paper has a circulation of approximately 50,000 while the paper’s website boasts 200,000 unique visitors and 900,000 page views per month. Just as the acquisition of community papers including The Aegis, Towson Times, Howard County Times, Columbia Flier and others helped us connect directly with communities across the region, the addition of the City Paper to the portfolio will enhance our reach within Baltimore City through its alternative, independent voice./CONTINUES

From an editorial perspective, the City Paper will operate independently from the Sun. Jennifer Marsh will lead the City Paper as its new general manager. She started her career in 1988 as an editorial intern at the City Paper and climbed the ranks to lead the team in 2011. Last year, she joined the Baltimore Sun Media Group as Niche Products Director. She knows the City Paper inside and out and will be an asset as we continue to grow its audience.

We will relocate the City Paper team to office space in our Calvert Street building.

This acquisition is possible because of the important work everyone at BSMG has done over the past few years to position ourselves for renewed growth. I want to thank all of you for your support.

Please join me in welcoming the City Paper staff to the BSMG team.
