Comcast NBCUniversal launches The Idea, an employee contest modeled after ‘The Voice’

Comcast NBCUniversal is inviting employees to come up with “new and innovative ways to move our business forward” in a contest called The Idea — modeled after the NBC show, “The Voice.” The grand prize is an all-expenses paid trip for two to “The Voice” finale.

The Idea is a new employee competition with the sole purpose of gathering great ideas from Comcast NBCUniversal employees. We are looking for new and innovative ways to move our business forward together as one company. The ideas can be big or small. They just need to benefit both NBCUniversal and Comcast by leveraging our unparalleled portfolio of assets (NBCUniversal’s broadcast and cable networks, theme parks, film studio, Comcast’s video and broadband distribution, etc.) to drive value across the enterprise – we call this Symphony./CONTINUES

In the three years since our companies came together, we have successfully executed on key opportunities across the content and distribution sides of the business. Symphony encompasses the marketing efforts that drive viewership of the Olympics, NBC’s Fall line-up, and the successful launch of the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Symphony includes innovation and strategic business opportunities, such as Comcast’s work with Universal Pictures that led to the launch of Electronic Sell Through (EST), enabling customers to buy movies On Demand. It involves the combination of NBCUniversal’s content and XFINITY’s industry leading technology platform that drove digital sales of Despicable Me 2 and the launch of NBC Sports Live Extra app on X1 during the Sochi Olympics.

We’ve made great progress, but there are many more opportunities to explore. And this is where you come in…we want to hear your ideas.

Here are the details:

* The Idea is modeled after the hit NBC show, The Voice, with the potential for any employee to come forward with the next big idea. There will be no PowerPoints and no business models; this is simply about the idea.

* Submissions will be collected via a microsite (theidea.comcastnbcuniversal.com) from now through September 3, and a select number of finalists will have the opportunity to work with a “coach” and then present their ideas to us (Steve Burke and Neil Smit) at 30 Rock in October – in Seth Meyers’ studio.

* All finalists will receive a prize, and one grand prize winner will win an all-expenses paid trip for two to the finale of The Voice, complete with the full VIP experience, as well as a chance to consult on the execution of the project that gets chosen.
