Subject: Fwd: Last chance to sign the letter to Arthur

Dear Members:

As most of you know, the Guild posted a letter to Arthur at www.saveourtimes.com on December 23. Since its posting, nearly 500 New York Times staff members, former employees and retirees have signed on.

Our letter expressed the disdain of our members and others concerning Janet Robinson’s $15 million package, which included a $10.5 million buyout of her pension entitlement while the foreign citizen employees’ pension plan was frozen.

At the end of business today, we will be sending that letter to Arthur with all signatures at 5 PM sharp. So now is your last opportunity to add your name, if you haven’t done so already.

In addition to the letter, our website now offers messages from your colleagues to Arthur decrying recent developments. If you’ve already signed, and you want to add your own comments, just sign onto the letter again, including your full name and title, and include your quote. It will be posted immediately. If you wish to see comments posted by your colleagues, go to: http://www.saveourtimes.com/quotes.php.

Lastly, the Guild expects to hold an urgent meeting on Monday, January 9, at the Times Center at 1:30 pm (should the scheduled time change, you will be notified via email). If you plan to attend the meeting, please sign-up here: http://saveourtimes.com/signup/. We have much to discuss!

We are extremely grateful, excited and heartened by the overwhelming response to the letter. The Guild would like to build on the momentum from 2011 in the coming year. Happy new year to you all.

In solidarity!

-Bill O’Meara, President, Newspaper Guild of New York and
-Grant Glickson, New York Times Guild Unit Chairperson
