Class of 1948 to hold reunion at funeral home. Connecting with dead classmates?

“So my mom got her invitation to her 65th high school class reunion and the party is at the ‘gathering room’ of a funeral home!” Romenesko reader Barbara Luhring writes on her Facebook wall. “Someone has a weird sense of humor! Are they connecting with classmates that have passed?”

She writes in an email: “My first reaction was astonishment. But the longer I thought about it, it seemed charming and practical – traits that are universal in the people of Manitowoc (Wisconsin).” Her mother, 82-year-old Alice (Cavanaugh) Baryenbruch, says: “I’m familiar with funeral homes at this age so it doesn’t seem weird at all. In fact my granddaughter would like to attend with me.”

Thanks to Barbara for scanning the reunion invite.
