The Sun-Times Media Team
I’ve asked the Press+ team — Steve Brill & Co. — if they want to comment.
UPDATE: Here is Brill’s response:
Press+ now has 440 newspapers, magazines, and online only sites that have launched our service, with more launching every day around the world.
439 have succeeded. These affiliates benefit from the data we are now able to send them regarding best sales practices (such as where to set the meter, what their marketing messages should be, etc.) — because we now have so much of that data from so many affiliates. We also share that data with them in person at quarterly affiliate meetings. The Sun Times, which changed ownership soon after launching Press+, did not atend those meetings following the ownership change or otherwise show much interest in deploying the best practices necessary to sell digital subscriptions. For example, one of those best practices has to do with giving readers clear uncomplcated messages that present clear pricing and product choices.
The new owners apparently decided from the start to go in a different direction, and we wish them well.
